FINANCIAL CONTROL WITHIN COMMERCIAL FAMILY FARMS AgEcon
Mauldon, Roger G..
Types of control are briefly reviewed. It is asserted that control problems are of growing importance in farm management. Opportunities for control in farming are identified. An outline is given of the necessary ingredients of a financial control system for farm management. By way of example, a test is made of a hypothesis about the nature of financial control among a sample of commercial farmers. Finally, problems of planning for control are briefly examined.

CHEMICAL CONTROL OF WHITE CLOVER IN SOYBEAN CROPS Planta Daninha
SCHUSTER,M. Z.; PELISSARI,A.; SZYMCZAK,L. S.; LUSTOSA,S. B. C.; MORAES,A..
ABSTRACTWhite clover is tolerant to many herbicides, making difficult a chemical control of this species during soybean crop establishments. The objective of this research was to select herbicides applied postemergence to control white clover in soybean and know the effects of this control on soybean yield. Seven herbicides were assessed, applied postemergence, with or without sequential application of glyphosate, and two control treatments (no control and total control of white clover). Glyphosate (with two sequential applications), fomesafen (with a...

An Investment Analysis Approach to Examining Bio-Control of Invasive Weeds AgEcon
Smith, Elwin G.; Young, Douglas L..
Invasive weeds are a large problem on large tracts of rangeland in North America. Biological methods of control have been instituted, but many information gaps remain. An investment model approach is used to demonstrate some of the potentially key pieces of biological data that are required for an analysis. This model is applied to the control of leafy spurge on rangeland. The results of control are very dependent on the rate of spread and control by the biological control agent, the initial density of the weed, and the recovery of the forage (grass) after the weed has been controlled....

Charting from within a Grounded Concept of Member Control AgEcon
Gray, Thomas W.; Butler, Gillian.
Organizational charts of membership structures can be useful tools for monitoring member control when they accurately depict a concept of control grounded in context and theory. This paper develops the concept "member control" by placing it within cooperative principles and democratic theory. From this perspective, members control their organization when, through a democratic process of decision making, they are able to keep the cooperative a cooperative, a condition we call "containment." With this conceptual development, a containment method of member control charting is developed and...

Economics of controlling invasive species: a stochastic optimisation model for a spatial-dynamic process AgEcon
Chalak, Morteza; Pannell, David J.; Polyakov, Maksym.
Invasive species are significant threats to biodiversity, natural ecosystems and agriculture leading to large worldwide economic and environmental damage. Spread and control of invasive species are stochastic processes with important spatial dimensions. Most economic studies of invasive species control ignore spatial and stochastic aspects. This paper covers this gap in the previous studies by analysing a spatially explicit dynamic process of controlling invasive species in a stochastic setting. We show how stochasticity, spatial location of infestation and control can influence the spread, control efficiency and optimal...

A Basic Approach to Implement Guided Tractor Control CIGR Journal
R. Freimann.
Within a continuous development of mobile agricultural machinery the application and further introduction of electronic controls is offering the fare most potential for working processes optimization. The article gives an introduction to tractor and implement controls, especially targeting implement guided tractor control, underlined with two executed examples for this advanced control design. A structured development model and basic knowledge on safe and robust control loop set-ups were developed. Potential conflict scenarios within the multi master control system of driver, tractor, implement and independently...

Costs and Benefits of Two Alternative Salmonella Control Policies in Finnish Broiler Production AgEcon
Kangas, Susanna; Lyytikainen, Tapani; Peltola, Jukka; Ranta, Jukka; Maijala, Riitta.
In this study, costs and benefits of two Salmonella control options in broiler production were compared. The first option was to control Salmonella as set by Council Directive 92/117/EEC, so-called Zoonosis Directive. The second option was more intense control programme, the so-called Finnish Salmonella control programme. The costs of controlling Salmonella in primary and secondary production and the direct and indirect losses due to Salmonella infection in humans in both options were compared. The national control option was found to be economically feasible. One prevented loss of life...

ORGANIC CERTIFICATION IN SELECTED EUROPEAN COUNTRIES: CONTROL FEES AND SIZE OF THE SECTOR Organic Eprints
Jespersen, L.M..
In the increasing organic market in Europe, more and more of the organic food is sold via big retail chains. This development implies that an increasing trade with organic food takes place over long distances and across borders in Europe. Therefore, the control of organic products through the food chain “from farm to fork” has become increasingly important, because the organic inspection and certification system is the only guarantee to the consumer that the organic food products they buy really are organic. At the European level quite a lot of research has been done on various aspects of organic farming and marketing of organic food products, but little is known about the organic certification system at EU level as...

Fire blight control in organic fruit growing – systematic investigation of the mode of action of potential control agents Organic Eprints
Kunz, Stefan.
Effective control agents are needed to prevent blossom infections by the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora in organic fruit growing. In this study 18 preparations of potential control agents were compared for their efficiency against E. amylovora. In shaken cultures twelve control agents inhibited the growth of E. amylovora completely. In this system different mechanisms of action were found. Six control agents shifted the pH of the cultures to values not suitable for bacterial growth (<5 or >8). Three agents act by copper, a known bactericide. The control agent Elot-Vis has...

Argo Quality Control Manual for CTD and Trajectory Data ArchiMer
Wong, Annie; Keeley, Robert; Carval, Thierry; Argo Data Management Team,.
A CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) device measures temperature and salinity versus pressure. This document is the Argo quality control manual for CTD and trajectory data. It describes two levels of quality control: - The first level is the real-time system that performs a set of agreed automatic checks. - The second level of quality control is the delayed-mode system. These quality control procedures are applied to the parameters JULD, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, PRES, TEMP, PSAL, and CNDC.
